Edmonds Food Banks community project funding at risk
The Edmonds Food Bank's efforts to secure federal funding for a new building are jeopardized after U. S. Rep. Rick Larsen's recent update indicated that their request may not receive support due to a continuing resolution passed by the House. If the resolution becomes law, it would mean no funding for Community Project Funding submissions for fiscal year 2025, including the food bank's request.
In response to this setback, the food bank remains proactive, with Larsen working to identify opportunities for supplemental funding that could benefit their project. Executive Director Casey Davis highlighted the critical role of government support in their capital funding strategy, especially as they serve over 1,000 households weekly amidst rising food insecurity. In light of the situation, the Edmonds Food Bank is also preparing to submit a request for fiscal year 2026 funding. The urgency of this matter is compounded by Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson's proposed cuts to food bank funding and the USDA's cancellation of $420 million in local purchasing programs.
The food bank urges community members to stay engaged and advocate for these vital resources. For more information on supporting the Edmonds Food Bank, visit their website.
