Prep boys basketball Warriors fall to Bearcats in District title game regional round of state tourney next

Edmonds, WASports

The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors' quest for the District 1 championship ended in disappointment as they lost 61-56 to the Monroe Bearcats on Saturday. This marks a significant moment for the Warriors, who have not claimed a boys basketball district title since 2016. The team struggled offensively, faced with a strong zone defense from Monroe and significant foul trouble that hindered their performance. Coach Tyler Geving praised the Bearcats for their game plan and execution, particularly in rebounding, which proved crucial in the final moments. Will Alseth and Cam Hiatt were standout players for the Warriors, with Hiatt scoring 29 points.

Despite falling short in the district final, the Warriors' strong season record of 23-2 allows them to advance to the regional round of the WIAA 3A State Boys Basketball Tournament. The game saw a total of 45 fouls and 51 free throws, highlighting the intense competition. Moving forward, the Warriors will aim to leverage their experience in the upcoming matches.
