Frank DeMiero A life in music, love and leadership

Francis "Frank" DeMiero, a pioneering music educator, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, at the age of 84, leaving behind a transformative legacy in music education. Born in 1940 in Pennsylvania and raised in Belfair, Washington, Frank was deeply influenced by his family's musical background and the values instilled by his World War II veteran father. He pursued higher education in music, earning degrees from Olympic College and Eastern Washington University, and later a Master's degree from Central Washington University. Over a 60-year career, Frank founded numerous music programs and festivals, including the nationally recognized DeMiero Jazz Festival, while serving as Music Supervisor for the Edmonds School District. His leadership ensured that every elementary student received music education, leading to the establishment of award-winning high school ensembles.

Frank's innovative teaching methods were so impactful that Bastyr University published a study on his approach, which has become foundational in education programs across North America. His passion for music extended beyond the classroom, as he was instrumental in fostering community music groups like the Seattle Jazz Singers. Frank DeMiero's unwavering belief in the power of music will continue to inspire future generations of musicians and educators.
