Police Drug use preceded mans chokehold death in Edmonds

Edmonds, WALocal News

A tragic incident in Edmonds has led to the release of a man charged with the accidental choking death of his husband, following a mental health crisis exacerbated by methamphetamine use. The couple, married since 2020, had consumed the drug together before the husband began experiencing severe paranoia and hallucinations. As the situation escalated, the man attempted to restrain his husband, first using a bear hug and later resorting to a chokehold during a prolonged struggle. After falling asleep beside his partner, he awoke to find his husband unresponsive, prompting a desperate 911 call. Paramedics arrived but pronounced the husband dead shortly after.

This case underscores the urgent need for addressing mental health and substance abuse issues at both community and systemic levels.
