Edmonds Civic Park - Artist Selection Process

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds Civic Park project in Washington is advancing, with a Public Hearing scheduled for October 19, 2021, to approve the artist selected for a signature artwork at the park's plaza entry. Seattle artist Clark Wiegman has been recommended for the contract, following a selection process that began in 2020 but faced delays due to the pandemic. The new design by Walker Macy aims to create a welcoming environment, with a budget of $90,000 allocated for the artwork. During the hearing, Wiegman will share insights into his past work and qualifications, setting the stage for community engagement in the project. Public participation is vital, as citizens are invited to provide comments during the meeting, ensuring their voices are heard in the artistic process.

Following the selection approval, Wiegman will collaborate with park designers and the community to develop artwork concepts, which will be presented at a public meeting this winter. The final design is expected to be approved in a subsequent Public Hearing in spring 2022, emphasizing the city's commitment to incorporating public art in community spaces. This initiative not only enhances the park's aesthetic appeal but also fosters a sense of community involvement and pride.
