Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds City Council has approved crucial amendments to the Edmonds Rescue Plan Fund Ordinance, allowing for an expansion of COVID-relief grants designed to support local businesses and households. With the aim of addressing the economic hardships caused by the pandemic, the updated program enables businesses to apply for grants of up to $10,000, a significant increase from previous limits. Furthermore, the eligibility criteria have been relaxed, permitting those who have received prior financial assistance to apply, thereby reaching a broader audience. The household grants program has also been enhanced, raising the income eligibility threshold to 60% of Edmonds Median Income, thus allowing more families to qualify for direct assistance. Funded by approximately $11.

9 million from the federal American Rescue Plan Act, this initiative is pivotal in helping the community recover from the economic crisis. The city prioritizes support for businesses owned by people of color, women, and veterans, ensuring that those historically left behind receive necessary aid. Local nonprofit organizations will administer the household grants, facilitating a streamlined application process. This proactive approach underscores Edmonds’ commitment to economic recovery and support for its most vulnerable citizens.
