VOAWW launches local resource navigation amid state, federal services cuts

Edmonds, WALocal News

Volunteers of America Western Washington (VOAWW) is set to launch "VOAWW Connect" on January 2, creating a local resource navigation program for Snohomish and Skagit Counties. This initiative responds to budget cuts that have significantly affected the previous 211 hotline, which now directs calls to a statewide center in Seattle. North Sound 211 Director Amanda Etchey stated that maintaining a local contact center is vital for providing personalized support. The new helpline will keep the existing toll-free number and introduce a local number for direct access to services. This local focus allows for quicker responses and stronger community partnerships.

The transition aligns with a broader strategic realignment aimed at ensuring financial stability amid funding cuts. VOAWW Connect will continue to collaborate with Washington 211, allowing seamless referrals between local and statewide resources. Etchey highlighted the depth of community knowledge as a key asset in delivering effective assistance.
