Public invited to comment on state transportation project priorities deadline Dec. 19

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has initiated a public comment period for its 2026-2029 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), which features over 1,100 projects supported by $5. 3 billion in federal funds. Residents can submit their feedback until 5 p. m. on December 19, focusing on how the projects may impact their communities.

The STIP includes a variety of transportation improvements identified through collaborative planning efforts across state, regional, and local agencies. Projects funded by the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration must be included to allow federal funding authorization. This comment period concludes a broader community engagement process that began with local transportation program development. WSDOT will send all comments to local agencies or planning organizations for review. The STIP comprises highways, railroads, transit hubs, bike lanes, and safety projects, among others.

A searchable database for the 2026-2029 STIP will be available in January 2026, following approval from federal agencies.
