Edmonds School Districts federal funding is back to pre-COVID levels, reports show
The Edmonds School District Board held its meeting on November 18, where it adopted school improvement plans and reviewed financial reports. The District's fund balance stands at 8. 61%, which slightly exceeds the 8. 5% minimum suggested by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Federal funding has returned to pre-COVID levels, now accounting for approximately 4% of total revenue, while state categorical funds for special education and transportation have increased.
Despite current underspending keeping the budget on target, a projected decline of over 300 students in enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year raises concerns about supporting the existing infrastructure. The Board unanimously approved a Highly Capable Program Plan to secure resources for student identification and teacher training. Additionally, they selected Vonita Hallock Francisco for the pro committee regarding the upcoming Educational Programs and Operations levy set for February 2026. The Board also reviewed student discipline policy changes aimed at aligning with state and federal requirements. These decisions illustrate the District's proactive approach to managing its financial health and educational standards.
