Its an ace. Pickleball gets its own Washington license plate
On November 20, 2025, Washington introduced a new specialty license plate celebrating pickleball, the state sport. After a three-year effort led by the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association, the initiative successfully gained legislative approval. The plates, priced at $157. 25, will help fund the construction and maintenance of public pickleball courts. Kate Van Gent, the association's vice president, highlighted the importance of recognizing the sport created in Washington.
The legislative push included the plate in an omnibus bill, named “Bill’s Bill” in memory of Sen. Bill Ramos, who passed away shortly before the session concluded. This plate is part of a broader rollout of specialty plates, with seven currently being introduced. The association also conducted an auction for the first plates, with proceeds supporting court development efforts. Future specialty plates will feature themes like pollinators and Mount St.
Helens, with proceeds allocated to relevant causes.
