More details on why South Snohomish Countys only hygiene center is closing

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Jean Kim Foundation's hygiene center in South Snohomish County will close in December due to the property owner's plan to sell the land. The foundation seeks a new site of approximately 2,000 square feet, with a minimum of two shower rooms and four to five bathrooms, preferably accessible by public transit. Executive Director Sandra Mears noted the importance of finding a creative solution for the community's needs, as the center has provided over 51,000 showers since April 2020. The foundation can allocate up to $3,800 for utilities or rent and is open to providing onsite staffing. Community members can support the hygiene center by donating care packages filled with essential items.

The center serves approximately 50 guests daily, offering clothing, hygiene products, and case management services. If the center closes, it could hinder individuals' progress toward stability, according to Mears. An event to thank community partners and guests is planned for December 12 at the hygiene center.
