Port commissioners focus on the future at Tuesday meeting

Edmonds, WALocal News

Port of Edmonds officials provided an optimistic report to commissioners, highlighting a 91% occupancy rate for dry storage and a 92% occupancy rate at the Harbor Square Business Complex. Plans for enhancing services include adding dry trailer storage from 50 to 70 spots, a project estimated to be self-sustaining within two years. The port will begin a comprehensive master plan in 2026, addressing various development strategies and potential new business lines. Despite an aging boating demographic, demand for wet moorage has not diminished, supported by a 293-person waitlist. Recommendations from BST Associates suggest a slight increase in marina fees to prepare for future infrastructure needs as the port approaches its 50th anniversary.

The report also noted a 17% increase in guest moorage compared to last year, attributed to favorable fishing conditions. Environmental discussions included the role of mitigation banks, which are crucial for offsetting ecological impacts. The port currently utilizes the Blue Heron Slough mitigation bank in Snohomish County, emphasizing the need for more approved banks in Washington.
