Edmonds SnoKing AAUW to host Nov. 8 program on Black women in WA civil rights movement
The Edmonds SnoKing Branch of the American Association of University Women will host a presentation on November 8 from 10 a. m. to noon at Edmonds College. The program, titled “We Are Also in Bondage Here: Black Women in the Washington Civil Rights Movement,” will be presented by Quin’Nita Cobbins-Modica. It will focus on the pivotal role Black women played during the 1960s civil rights movement in Washington state.
Cobbins-Modica will discuss how these women were key drivers in campaigns to dismantle racial segregation and discriminatory practices. Attendees will learn about the historical context and political ferment of that era. Real names and city of residence are required for commenters to verify identities, ensuring respectful discourse. This event is significant as it highlights the often-overlooked contributions of Black women in civil rights history. Such programs foster awareness and understanding of local civil rights struggles and their impact on current social issues.
