Second webinar Oct. 30 for workers affected by federal government shutdown

Edmonds, WALocal News

Federal workers facing furloughs or layoffs due to the government shutdown can participate in a free virtual webinar on October 30. The session will cover unemployment benefits, health care options, and skill enhancement opportunities. The Employment Security Department, along with the Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County, will cohost the event, which follows an earlier session on October 23 that attracted 489 attendees. As of October 23, 1,832 federal workers in Washington have applied for unemployment benefits, averaging about 80 applications per day. This webinar is part of the state's Rapid Response efforts aimed at supporting individuals experiencing job loss or potential workforce reductions.

Collaborating agencies include WorkSource, local workforce development boards, and Washington Healthplanfinder. Participants will receive guidance on job search strategies and access to training programs. These resources are critical as many workers navigate the challenges posed by the ongoing federal government shutdown.
