Community Transit moves to two-year budget process for 2026-27, with public comment now open

Edmonds, WALocal News

Community Transit proposes an 18% increase in overall transit service for the 2026-27 budget, totaling $282. 1 million in 2026 and $290. 3 million in 2027. Public comments on the draft budget are open until November 14, with a public hearing planned for November 6. The agency's CEO, Ric Ilgenfritz, emphasized the commitment to improving service and safety as it approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026.

The budget allocates funding for 14 new transit security officers and the installation of driver barrier doors in all buses, enhancing passenger and employee safety. It also includes plans for better bus stop design and amenities to improve rider convenience. The budget supports the first two years of a six-year Transit Development Plan, which aligns with the agency's long-term Journey 2050 vision. Community Transit aims to ensure balanced budgets with fully funded reserves and operating revenues exceeding expenditures. The public is encouraged to engage with the process through online and in-person options before the final budget approval.
