Marina breakwater cleaning rescheduled for Oct. 20

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Port of Edmonds and South County Fire will perform a cleaning of the marina breakwater on October 20 to remove accumulated bird droppings. The buildup generates strong odors that affect the waterfront and marina experience. Marine 16, the fire/rescue boat stationed at the Port, will apply water streams during the cleaning, which also serves as a training opportunity for firefighters to practice maneuvering in confined spaces. Prior to the cleaning, the Port consulted with the USDA to ensure that the operation would not impact local wildlife, scheduling it outside the shorebird nesting season. A USDA representative conducted a visual survey of the breakwater, confirming the project's safety.

The marina will remain open during the operation, with a request for boaters to maintain caution and operate at no wake. This initiative reflects the collaboration between local agencies to maintain the marina's environment while ensuring public safety. Such actions are vital for preserving local ecosystems and enhancing community experiences at the waterfront.
