Coming Oct. 25 to the Edmonds Theater Stripped for Parts

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds Theater will present "Stripped for Parts" on Oct. 25, a documentary that examines how profit motives have harmed local journalism. Directed by two-time Academy Award-nominated Rick Goldsmith, the film explores the closure of 2,000 newspapers in the U. S. over the last two decades, resulting in news deserts.

Co-sponsored by the Snohomish County League of Women Voters and My Neighborhood News Network, the event will open doors at 11 a. m. and feature a panel discussion with journalism leaders after the screening. Panelists include Jody Brannon, a digital news innovator, and Alex Bruell, a seasoned journalist. Tickets are available for $25, and attendees can contribute additional donations to support local news initiatives, which will be matched by a donor.

The screening aims to raise awareness about the critical state of local journalism and foster community engagement. This event highlights the importance of local news and the challenges it faces amid corporate ownership.
