A housing project thats been five years in the making officially breaks ground

On October 2, 2025, officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for Scriber Place, a new affordable housing project in Edmonds, Washington. This initiative will create 52 housing units for students and families affiliated with the Edmonds School District, addressing a pressing local need. Housing Hope CEO Kathryn Opina stated that affordable housing is vital for strong educational outcomes. The $38. 7 million project arises from a partnership between Housing Hope and the Edmonds School District, utilizing surplus district land.

Last year, the district reported 820 students experiencing homelessness, underscoring the importance of such developments. ESD Homeless Coordinator Francisco Gonzalez Robles noted the challenges families face in securing housing. Local officials, including city mayors and school superintendents, attended the ceremony, emphasizing community support for the initiative. Construction is expected to be completed by December 2026.
