How close is the Edmonds New Start Center to opening its doors? Heres what we know so far
The New Start centers in Edmonds and Everett are undergoing renovations, currently about halfway complete, with plans for both to open before winter. These facilities will serve as emergency bridge housing, offering vital services such as medical care, mental health support, and job resources for individuals experiencing homelessness. The Edmonds center will contain 48 units, while the Everett center will feature 73 units, with a total budget of approximately $37 million sourced from federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and a local affordable housing sales tax. Kari Bray, the County Communications Director, confirmed that logistics with site operators YWCA and Salvation Army are underway. City officials, including Councilmember Jenna Nand, have requested community engagement opportunities, like a town hall and facility tours, to promote transparency.
Updates on construction and operational plans will be provided to local leaders as progress continues. The county aims to finalize the opening date once construction wraps up, allowing for outreach initiatives to welcome the community. These centers represent a significant investment in addressing homelessness in the region.
