Partnering with Edmonds School District, Housing Hope to break ground Oct. 1 on Scriber Place
Housing Hope will break ground on Scriber Place, a new housing community for 52 families, on Oct. 1 in Lynnwood, Washington. This initiative, developed in partnership with the Edmonds School District, addresses the pressing issue of homelessness affecting over 600 families in the district. Families must be enrolled in the McKinney-Vento program to qualify for housing and should stay in contact with their Family Resource Advocate. Housing Hope CEO Kathryn Opina emphasized the project's unique status as the first of its kind in Washington state.
Funding will come from Project Based Section 8 Vouchers, with Housing Hope and the Housing Authority of Snohomish County assisting families in navigating the eligibility process. The project aims to provide stable housing, crucial for improving academic performance among students facing homelessness. A study indicated that students without stable housing have academic outcomes similar to their unsheltered peers, underscoring the urgency of this initiative. Scriber Place represents a significant step towards addressing the local housing crisis while supporting vulnerable families.
