Lotera celebration Oct. 4 marks Hispanic Heritage Month

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds School District is set to host a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration featuring Lotería on October 4, from 11 a. m. to 2 p. m. at Lynnwood Elementary School.

Lotería resembles bingo, where players mark pictures on a board as a caller draws symbols from a deck of cards. This game, which has roots in Spain, gained widespread popularity in Latin America, particularly in Mexico, where it is celebrated as a cultural tradition. The event will not only provide entertainment but also encourage community engagement and cultural appreciation. Participants can expect to enjoy traditional symbols and figures that reflect Hispanic heritage. The Museum of Latin American Art notes that the game includes intricate designs that celebrate various aspects of culture.

This celebration represents a broader commitment by the school district to honor diversity and foster inclusivity. For more information on additional events, the community is encouraged to visit the Edmonds School District’s website.
