Discover Pass price will increase Oct. 1

Edmonds, WALocal News

Beginning October 1, the price of the Discover Pass will increase from $30 to $45, as announced by Washington State Parks. This increase is intended to bolster essential revenue for the maintenance and operation of state parks. The Discover Pass provides unlimited access to over 100 state parks and 350 recreation sites, with 71% of the operating budget for State Parks relying on its sales. This price adjustment follows legislative approval in April, marking the first increase since the pass's introduction in 2011 despite ongoing inflation. Lifetime Disabled Veterans Passholders will also benefit from expanded access to additional state-managed lands and facilities.

The new pass structure allows LDV passholders to enjoy free camping and other recreational opportunities. Furthermore, starting October 1, State Parks will implement transaction fees for camping reservations on the LDV. These changes emphasize the importance of funding for maintaining outdoor recreational spaces and conservation efforts.
