State committee seeks volunteers interested in serving the disability community

The Washington State Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues & Employment (GCDE) is actively seeking nine new volunteer members, with applications due by October 17. Eligible candidates must have a disability, a family member with a disability, or experience in advocacy or services for the disability community. Each member serves a three-year term, with the possibility of reappointment, starting in early 2026. Members engage in subcommittees that focus on key issues like community outreach, youth empowerment, and legislation affecting individuals with disabilities. The committee currently has 25 members appointed by the governor, emphasizing the importance of community representation.

Gov. Bob Ferguson will oversee the selection process for the new members. Interested applicants can access further information and application instructions on the GCDE website. This recruitment effort aims to enhance advocacy and awareness for disability justice across Washington State.
