Firefighter rescue kayaker near Beach Camp at Sunset Bay Tuesday

Edmonds, WALocal News

South County firefighters aboard Marine 16 successfully rescued a man who fell from his kayak in Puget Sound off Edmonds on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1:30 p. m. , with the man found approximately 100 yards from the Beach Camp at Sunset Bay. He had been in the cold water for over half an hour and was not wearing a life jacket, raising concerns about his safety.

Firefighters quickly donned a special suit and used heat packs to warm him up while rushing him back to shore. Once ashore, he was transported to Swedish Hospital in Edmonds, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Marine 16, docked at the Port of Edmonds, plays a crucial role in responding to rescues, fires, and medical emergencies throughout the year. The rapid response time of less than 10 minutes highlights the efficiency of local emergency services. Such incidents underscore the importance of wearing life jackets while kayaking to ensure safety on the water.
