Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds School District is moving forward with plans for a fifth middle school in Lynnwood, scheduled to begin construction in summer 2026 and open its doors in fall 2028. To foster community involvement, the district is forming a School Naming Committee tasked with recommending three to five names to the school board. Interested individuals, including families, staff, students, and community members, can apply online until 5 p. m. on September 26.

The committee will solicit name suggestions that reflect the area's geographic characteristics and resonate with local residents. It will also avoid naming overlaps with existing schools in the district and nearby areas. This initiative aims to create a meaningful identity for the new school, emphasizing community ties. The district values local input as a way to enhance engagement and pride in the educational environment. Overall, the naming process signifies a step toward building a collaborative community around the new school.
