Prep football Warriors knock off Bearcats in key Wesco win
The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors defeated the Monroe Bearcats 16-8 in a crucial Wesco League game, ending Monroe's streak of conference dominance. Senior Cruz Escandon caught two touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback George Gizzi, who completed 14 of 17 attempts for 165 yards. The Warriors' defense was instrumental, recording three sacks and forcing a fumble late in the game that secured their victory. E-W's points included a safety from a tackle in the end zone and two touchdown passes from Gizzi, utilizing a strategic play against shorter defenders. Monroe's only score came on a touchdown pass in the third quarter.
This game marked the first victory for the Warriors over the Bearcats in four years, as they had previously been outscored 119-21 in their last three encounters. Coach Roth praised his team's performance and highlighted their aspirations for the season. With a record of 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference, the Warriors are optimistic about their future.
