Edmonds, WALocal News

South County Fire will host a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on September 11 at 9:11 a. m. at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park in Edmonds. The ceremony aims to honor nearly 3,000 victims of the attacks, including 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 10 emergency medical services workers. Attendees will gather in front of a memorial featuring a 1-ton steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center, supported by stainless steel towers and glass walls inscribed with the victims' names.

The event will include a speech from retired Snohomish County Fire District 1 Captain Andy Speier, who served as a firefighter in New York and returned to Ground Zero for rescue efforts. The South County Fire Honor Guard and bugler Debbie Dawson, a retired Edmonds police officer, will also participate in the ceremony. In addition to remembering 9/11 victims, the event will honor South County Fire Captain Dean Warren, who succumbed to occupational cancer. This ceremony serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by first responders. Community members are encouraged to attend and pay their respects.
