Edmonds, WALocal News

The Triton Student Resource Hub at Edmonds College experienced a significant increase in demand, with 2,200 students visiting the food pantry during winter quarter 2025, compared to 1,470 the previous year. According to Emergency Grant Program Specialist Vivian Dang, rising housing costs continue to pose challenges for students, leading to increased applications for emergency assistance. From July 2024 to June 2025, the Hub received 718 applications for emergency funding, a decrease from 877 the previous fiscal year. In the last quarter, the Hub approved $67,000 in emergency funding, with 75% allocated for housing expenses. A report from Temple University’s Hope Center for Student Basic Needs indicated that 59% of surveyed students faced food or housing insecurity.

The Hub also provides one-time financial assistance for various needs, including childcare and transportation. Grants from the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and donations from the Edmonds College Foundation support the Hub’s funding. The food pantry operates several days a week, offering essential items, including canned goods and personal hygiene supplies.
