Felon posing as Edmonds police detective arrested in Bremerton for impersonation, firearm charges

Edmonds, WALocal News

Bremerton Police arrested Michael A. Scaletta-Teates, 49, for impersonating an Edmonds detective on Friday morning. He approached an active police scene in an unmarked vehicle with blue lights and claimed to be an off-duty officer. Scaletta-Teates wore body armor labeled "POLICE" and "SWAT," along with a metallic police badge. Officers determined he was a security guard and not a law enforcement officer after investigating his claims.

He was armed with a firearm and had a significant amount of police equipment in his possession. Police booked him into Kitsap County Jail for first-degree criminal impersonation and unlawful possession of a firearm. Edmonds Police Commander Josh McClure confirmed the department is aware of the incident but noted that there is no indication that the badge or equipment is stolen property. Community members with suspicious encounters involving Scaletta-Teates are encouraged to contact Bremerton Police.
