American journalism on the brink Save the date for Stripped for Parts documentary screening Oct. 25
My Neighborhood News Network and the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County will present the documentary "Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink" on October 25 at the Edmonds Theater. The film, produced by Rick Goldsmith, examines the detrimental effects of hedge fund control over local newspapers, which has led to the closure of approximately 2,000 papers in the U. S. in the last two decades. This alarming trend has created news deserts, affecting community access to information.
After the screening, a panel discussion will feature prominent figures in local journalism, including Brenda Harrison and Michael Whitney. Tickets are priced at $25, with additional donations welcomed to support My Neighborhood News Network. The event emphasizes the importance of local journalism and aims to foster discussions on its future. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the panel during a Q&A session. Teresa Wippel will moderate the discussion, highlighting the critical role of local news in democracy.
