College soccer player from Edmonds recognized for community service

Taylor O’Brien, a senior on the women’s soccer team at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, was named to the 2025-26 Fall Good Works Team, recognizing her dedication to community service and leadership. Sponsored by Allstate and NACDA, the team highlights 20 student-athletes from various NCAA divisions who support impactful causes. O’Brien leads community initiatives as the service coordinator on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, coaching at Harry’s Game, which promotes inclusion for special needs children, and volunteering with Surfers Healing. She mobilizes fellow athletes to volunteer at Miracle League baseball games, creating memorable experiences for children with disabilities. As a three-time Coastal Athletic Association Academic Honor Roll honoree, she balances her athletic commitments with academic excellence.

O’Brien has played over 2,300 minutes for the Seahawks, contributing three goals and two assists. Set to graduate in spring 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, she aspires to become a physical therapist. Her background in community service reflects a strong commitment to making a difference beyond athletics.
