Firefighters to host 911 memorial ceremony in Edmonds

South County Fire will host a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on September 11 at 9:11 a. m. at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park in Edmonds. The ceremony will take place in front of a memorial that includes a 1-ton beam recovered from the World Trade Center, supported by stainless steel towers. The event will feature the South County Fire Honor Guard, bugler Debbie Dawson, and guest speaker Andy Speier, a retired firefighter who returned to help search for colleagues at Ground Zero after the attacks.

The memorial honors nearly 3,000 victims, including 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 10 emergency medical workers. Additionally, the ceremony will remember South County Fire Captain Dean Warren, who succumbed to occupational cancer. This annual event underscores the community's commitment to honoring the sacrifice of first responders. Attendees are encouraged to reflect on the events of 9/11 and the ongoing impact on public safety personnel. Such ceremonies foster unity and remembrance within the community.
