More than 1,400 customers receive free energy-efficient appliances through state program, PUD says
Snohomish County PUD provided free energy-efficient appliances to over 1,400 households through its Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) program, funded by $5. 3 million from the state’s Climate Commitment Act. The program offered new washer/dryer sets, induction stovetops, and heat pump water heaters to eligible customers, focusing on those earning at or below 80% of the area median income. John Hoffman, PUD chief customer officer, emphasized the long-term savings on energy bills for participating households. Local appliance retailers played a crucial role in the program, helping determine eligible products and facilitating the distribution process.
In total, the HEAR program delivered 659 washer/dryer sets, 214 all-in-one combos, 452 heat pump water heaters, and 104 induction stovetops. Tom Hagar, President of Washington Water Heaters, noted the program's positive impact on local contractors, enhancing their efficiency and problem-solving abilities. This funding represents the largest allocation to any utility in Washington state for such initiatives. Overall, the program aims to promote sustainable technology while alleviating energy burdens for low-income families.
