Port Commissioners discuss projects, upcoming tours and new focus on environment at Tuesday meeting

Edmonds, WALocal News

Port commissioners met to set project priorities for the Harbor Square business park in preparation for the 2026 budget. Proposed improvements include new atrium windows and exterior painting for multiple buildings, with some maintenance tasks deferred. Commissioner Ross Dimmick highlighted the need for an environmental committee to focus on the Edmonds Marsh, a critical wetland ecosystem. The Port's Strategic Plan aims to align its position with the City of Edmonds on environmental initiatives, particularly regarding the Unocal site. The commission also decided to retain an older forklift as a backup, addressing concerns about the reliability of new models that require lengthy repairs.

This backup plan will help maintain efficient service during peak fishing seasons. The meeting underscored the Port's commitment to balancing development with environmental stewardship. Public engagement opportunities were also discussed to foster community awareness and participation.
