Celebrate the magic of Vauxs Swifts at Swifts Night Out in Monroe Sept. 6
Swifts Night Out is scheduled for September 6, running from 4:30 to 8 p. m. at Frank Wagner Elementary School in Monroe. The event invites families and bird enthusiasts to witness thousands of Vaux’s Swifts roosting in the historic chimney, a critical migratory stopover. Activities include a presentation about the swifts, educational booths, crafts for children, and a food truck.
The chimney, which hosts over 20,000 swifts on busy nights, was saved from demolition in 2007 through community efforts. Brian Zinke, executive director of Pilchuck Audubon Society, remarked on the awe-inspiring nature of the event and its role in fostering community connections. This location is designated as a globally Important Bird Area, emphasizing its environmental importance. Attendees are advised to arrive early and bring binoculars for the best experience. Swifts Night Out offers a unique opportunity to engage with local wildlife and support conservation efforts.
