Edmonds Civic Roundtable hosts conversation about housing with a side of breakfast

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds Civic Roundtable hosted a discussion on affordable housing, drawing about a dozen participants at the Pancake Haus. City Councilmember Susan Paine and Chris Collier from the Housing Authority of Snohomish County led the conversation, covering topics like the multi-family tax exemption program and mobile home communities. Collier explained that affordable housing primarily serves low-income households, with income below 80% of the area’s median. He highlighted that Snohomish County requires 167,000 new housing units in the next 19 years to meet demand. The session also addressed the challenges facing mobile home parks, particularly after the recent rent cap legislation.

Paine noted that co-living housing, a new concept for many in the community, could be part of the solution. Local officials are committed to exploring innovative housing solutions in the coming years. Adequate housing, Collier stated, is essential for a successful society.
