In Days Gone By Tragedy strikes over and over. The story of the Langrill family

Edmonds, WALocal News

Born in England in 1860, Mary Knott immigrated to the United States in 1882, seeking to reunite with her siblings in Minnesota. After marrying Franklin Langrill in 1885, they faced a difficult farming life in South Dakota characterized by poverty and danger. Mary recounted challenges such as stampeding cattle threatening her daughters' safety. In 1891, after four years of hardship, they left their farm and headed west. They arrived in Edmonds in 1892, a town that had recently incorporated and was thriving due to its mill industry.

Franklin secured work as a Teamster, providing a more stable life for their growing family. The Langrills' story illustrates the resilience and determination of immigrants navigating the challenges of the American frontier. Their experiences contribute to the historical narrative of Edmonds and the broader immigrant experience in the late 19th century.
