Edmonds is worth it Levy lid lift supporters launch campaign to support ballot measure

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Yes! For Edmonds campaign launched a $14. 5 million levy lid lift initiative for the Nov. 4 ballot, aimed at addressing the city's pressing financial issues. The Edmonds City Council approved the measure, which seeks to fund critical services such as police, parks, and infrastructure maintenance.

Supporters, including Mayor Mike Rosen and several councilmembers, argue that the city faces a "fiscal emergency," warning that failure to pass the levy could result in layoffs and cuts to vital community resources. Two councilmembers voted against the measure, claiming the proposed amount is excessive and could burden taxpayers. The campaign's volunteer-driven efforts highlight the potential consequences of not securing this funding, which could include the sale of public properties to private developers. Adel Sefrioui, a campaign volunteer, emphasized that the levy is crucial for creating stability and securing a better future for Edmonds. Additionally, supporters cite financial strains faced by cities statewide, exacerbated by property tax caps.

The campaign plans extensive outreach over the coming months to build support for Proposition 1.
