Edmonds, WALocal News

During a recent meeting, the Edmonds City Council focused on financial matters, revealing a $5. 6 million surplus for the first half of the year, despite an anticipated $8. 2 million shortfall by year-end. Finance Director Richard Gould's report indicated revenue growth across several areas, including a 41% increase in real estate excise taxes. The council agreed to advance two sales tax proposals aimed at generating funds for arts and public safety initiatives.

The street vacation ordinance, allowing the sale of public easements, passed with a unanimous vote. Additionally, the council extended Public Works Director Phil William’s contract through August 2025. Community engagement is encouraged as the council seeks public input on the financial strategies discussed. The upcoming budget retreat on September 12 will further address the city's financial planning. The report serves as a critical tool for mid-biennium modifications to the city’s two-year budget.
