Foundation grant of 130K to benefit counseling services at Edmonds College

Edmonds, WALocal News

Edmonds College has secured a $130,000 grant from the Whitehorse Foundation, enabling the hiring of a full-time counselor at its Counseling and Resource Center for one year. Jessica Burwell, the center's director, highlighted the importance of this funding for enhancing mental health services. The grant will allow the center to provide timely and culturally competent counseling, especially for historically underserved student populations. The Counseling and Resource Center, situated in Mountlake Terrace Hall, serves all campus community members with mental and behavioral health referrals. Furthermore, the Wellness Center in Lynnwood Hall offers a quiet space for relaxation and access to personal health items, enhancing overall student wellness.

Founded in 1989, the Whitehorse Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in Snohomish County focused on child and family well-being. This grant underscores the foundation's commitment to mental health services in the region. By improving access to counseling, Edmonds College aims to boost student retention and academic success.
