Edmonds, WALocal News

Snohomish County Parks and Recreation obtained over $1. 6 million in grant funding for significant park improvements. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office awarded a $500,000 grant for the Flowing Lake Dock and Waterfront Access Project, which will replace an outdated dock and enhance public access for kayaking and fishing. Furthermore, a $681,175 grant will facilitate the expansion of Martha Lake Park, focusing on improved access and increased parking capacity. The Healthy Kids Initiative Grant will also provide matching funds for new playgrounds at Martha Lake Airport Park and Paine Field Community Park, raising their equipment budgets to $500,000 each.

Parks Director Sharon Walker highlighted the grants' role in making parks safer and more inclusive. Community members can participate in shaping the playground designs via online surveys in August. These upgrades aim to enhance outdoor recreation and public access in Snohomish County. Such improvements reflect an ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive recreational spaces for all residents.
