Another 122M from opioid settlements now available to Washington

Edmonds, WALocal News

Washington local governments can now sign up for a share of $122. 2 million in settlements with Purdue Pharma and eight generic opioid manufacturers to combat the opioid epidemic. The attorney general's office has opened signups as of Monday, with a deadline of September 30 for the Purdue Pharma settlement. The funds will be allocated over 15 years, with much of the distribution occurring in the first three years to support treatment clinics and provide overdose reversal kits. Fatal overdoses in Washington reached 3,137 in 2024, with synthetic opioids like fentanyl driving the increase.

Attorney General Nick Brown stated that the settlements could help save lives and support community projects. If all 129 eligible local governments participate, the total settlement amount from opioid manufacturers will reach $1. 3 billion. The distribution formula for cities and counties is based on size, as determined by 2019 U. S.

Census Bureau estimates. A tracker will monitor the signup status of eligible governments, updating frequently as the deadline approaches.
