Its been two months since county joined a housing-related lawsuit against federal government. Heres whats happening so far

Edmonds, WALocal News

Snohomish County is part of a lawsuit challenging federal conditions on funding for homeless housing systems, including HUD and DOT grants. The Trump Administration's conditions allegedly violate constitutional protections, according to the county's claims. A U. S. District Court issued a preliminary injunction in June, preventing the federal government from enforcing these conditions while the case unfolds.

The county received $16. 7 million in CoC funding, crucial for providing permanent supportive housing and transitional services. County Executive Dave Somers highlighted that a loss of this funding could lead to a drastic increase in homelessness, potentially doubling the unhoused population. The county does not receive DOT grant funding, but the CoC funding has been vital since 1994. Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Bridget Casey confirmed ongoing coordination with local organizations that rely on this funding.

The lawsuit represents a significant intersection of local governance and federal policy, emphasizing the importance of funding for community services.
