Volunteers needed Red Cross helps down the street and across the state

Edmonds, WALocal News

The American Red Cross is urgently seeking volunteers for its Disaster Response Teams to assist in local emergencies like home fires, which have impacted communities such as Shoreline and Mountlake Terrace. Communications director Betsy Robertson emphasized the critical need for individuals to aid in feeding, shelter logistics, and distributing emergency supplies as fire risks escalate this season. Recent red flag warnings from Yakima to Wenatchee signal an increased potential for wildfires, making volunteer support essential. The organization offers diverse roles, accommodating various skills and time commitments, with training provided for all volunteers. Many current volunteers are retirees, benefiting from flexible schedules, but opportunities exist for anyone willing to contribute.

Each volunteer plays a vital role in maintaining emergency shelters and connecting residents with necessary assistance. The Red Cross's continuous recruitment efforts aim to ensure preparedness for ongoing and future disasters. “Whatever your skill set — there’s going to be something for you in the Red Cross,” Robertson stated.
