Esperance residents to host gathering July 24 about proposed areawide rezones

Edmonds, WALocal News

Esperance residents will gather on July 24 at Edmonds Library to discuss potential rezoning from R-8,400 single-family lots to Low Density Multiple Residential for multi-family housing. This change, proposed by Snohomish County, aims to align with the 2024 Growth Management Act Comprehensive Plan. The meeting, scheduled for 6:45 p. m. , will allow residents to share perspectives and ask questions about the future of their community.

In June, the county planning commission voted 6-1 to recommend this rezone proposal to the County Council, which may consider the changes later this year. Esperance, an unincorporated area of 448 acres, is home to approximately 4,000 residents, according to the U. S. Census Bureau. The proposed rezoning could significantly alter the community's housing landscape, prompting discussions about the implications for local families.

Communications Specialist Jacob Lambert emphasized the importance of community feedback in shaping the final decision. Engaging residents in this process is essential to ensure their voices are heard as the county moves forward.
