Port of Edmonds moves toward construction on mid-marina breakwater restoration project

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Port of Edmonds secured $412,000 in state funding for the mid-marina breakwater restoration project, scheduled to begin construction in 2026. This initiative is crucial for maintaining infrastructure that protects hundreds of moorage slips from powerful waves. Port Commission President David Preston highlighted the project's significance for the local economy and thanked state legislators for their support. The restoration work will replace deteriorating materials and reinforce the breakwater, extending its service life by 10-12 years. In addition to this project, the port is advancing other initiatives, including the $33 million North Portwalk and Seawall replacements.

U. S. Rep. Rick Larsen has also obtained $4 million for seawall reconstruction. This funding ensures the marina's safety and functionality while providing time to plan for a comprehensive breakwater replacement.

The port's efforts reflect ongoing commitment to infrastructure improvements in the region.
