Edmonds man found guilty in 2024 shooting of rideshare driver

Edmonds, WALocal News

A Snohomish County jury found Alex Matthew Waggoner guilty of second-degree murder for the January 3, 2024, shooting of rideshare driver Abdikadir Gedi Shariif in Edmonds. Prosecutor Bob Langbehn argued that Waggoner's actions were deliberate, recounting evidence that showed he shot Shariif 11 times after a near-collision. Video evidence indicated Shariif was not a threat, as he was checking his phone while stopped at a red light. Waggoner fled the scene immediately, leaving law enforcement with limited information. The prosecution presented multiple sources of evidence, including witness testimonies and ballistic analysis.

During police interviews, Waggoner lied about the incident but later acknowledged the shooting, attributing it to being drunk and impulsive. The prosecutor asserted that Waggoner's lack of urgency to take responsibility demonstrated a lack of genuine remorse. Sentencing is set for September 17, 2025.
