Art Beat feature Write on the Sound celebrates 40 years

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Write on the Sound conference in Edmonds celebrates its 40th anniversary this October, featuring over 30 workshops and sessions tailored for writers of all levels. Registration opens online on July 21, with virtual sessions on September 27 and in-person events from October 3-5. Organizers Laurie Rose and Harry Kirchner highlight the conference’s unique community-focused approach, intentionally limiting attendance to 250 participants to foster intimacy. Unlike many writing conferences, WOTS prioritizes the craft of writing over pitching to agents, creating a welcoming environment for all. The conference has also made efforts to diversify its presenters and appeal to a broader audience, particularly after the pandemic.

New this year is a critique panel discussion that allows for anonymous feedback, enhancing the learning experience. The event attracts writers from across the Northwest, the U. S. , and Canada, making it a significant gathering for local and regional authors. WOTS has become a once-a-year retreat for many, reflecting its enduring popularity in the writing community.
