Sea creatures rule at annual Edmonds Sand Sculpture Contest
The annual Edmonds Sand Sculpture Contest showcased 19 teams under ideal conditions of low tide and sunshine. The Hogenson family won first place in the family category with their intricately designed octopus sculpture, "Ebbie the Edmonds Octopus. " Named after the ebb and flow of the tides, the sculpture involved seven family members, with ages ranging from 3 to 69. Lillyan and Eva Hendershot secured second place with their axolotl sculpture, while third place went to "The Tess Mahal. " In the youth category, 12-year-old Amelia Lawson impressed judges with her Kraken sculpture, despite having only 30 minutes to complete it.
The adult category featured a winning entry from The Shore Thangs, who created "Mt. Rain Lizard," which included a volcano and a giant lizard. Competitors came from as far as California and Texas, indicating the contest’s growing popularity. The event also entertained young visitors with bubble activities led by Bubble Man Gary Larson.
