Why August is such a busy month for the Hygiene Center

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Jean Kim Foundation’s Hygiene Center reported a record 1,068 showers in August 2023, affirming its status as a crucial resource for the homeless. Director Sandra Mears noted that individuals without housing are particularly susceptible to heat-related health issues during the summer. To combat this, Simply the Basics provided a grant for 10,000 SPF 30 lip balms and band aid kits, marking the first time the center has received such support. Located at 19726 64th Ave. W.

in Lynnwood, the center operates from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m. Monday through Saturday, offering showers, food, clothing, and resources.

Local churches, including Holy Rosary and St. Thomas More Parishes, also serve hot meals at the center. The Hygiene Center collaborates with MercyWatch and the state Department of Social and Health Services to provide additional services. Community donations, including hygiene products and clothing, are essential for the center's operations. This support underscores the local commitment to addressing homelessness and related health challenges.
